I Asked Dropshippers on Reddit to Share If They’ve Been Scammed by Gurus

A few days ago, I made a Reddit post in the Dropship community asking users to share personal stories of dropshipping gurus who have scammed them out of their money.

If you’re new to the dropshipping space, you should know that not every influential person you see online wants to teach or help you. Many of them just want your money and will sell you nothing but dreams.

My post got 43k views and around 60 comments of personal experiences.

Below are the results from this discussion.

The goal of this story is to help you avoid getting scammed by some of these people too. Additionally, not all of these gurus are scammers. In many cases, they provide value but not everyone is cut out to make it in the dropshipping space.

One of the most upvoted comments was talking about Reddit itself. Anyone who uses Reddit knows that there are tons of scammers in any subreddit. Because of this, you have to be extremely careful about who you trust on this platform.

Unlike other platforms like Instagram or Twitter, you don’t even know who you are talking to on Reddit, most of the time.

This user claims they lost around $700-$800 from this scam. However, they were wise enough to take this loss as a lesson and learn from the experience.

A person asked, “How do these Reddit scams look?”. They were curious as to what types of content to watch out for in order to avoid getting scams.

Another user commented the following:

Above Ave

above ave dropshipping scam reddit

This Reddit member talks about someone who runs a consulting and training business for e-commerce and dropshipping beginners. The company is called Above Ave Consulting and apparently, they do not provide such a good service for something that costs thousands of dollars.

The comment doesn’t share a lot but there is another thread on Just Answer about another scam from Above Ave.

In this post, the user says the following:

“I was scammed. I signed a contract with above ave consulting. They provided training materials on starting a business on Amazon seller central. They immediately started with the upsells once I had paid $3800 to get into the course.”

After this, the user says:

“They teach you how to drop ship on Amazon and do say that this is against Amazon rules. However, they gloss over this and severely downplay the seriousness. I was caught by Amazon and banned.”

The story goes much further than this, as the user explains how they tried to get their Amazon account back in which they already had $3000 worth of investment.

Here is the total amount of money that this user lost because of this apparent scam:

This is all I have so far but I will definitely update the post if more responses come.
